  • CREATING OUR FUTURE:
  • Don't miss these opportunities for networking with friends and colleagues at this year's annual meeting in Atlanta, GA. As usual, we have lots of opportunities for you to take an active role in the division, to get to know new colleagues and socialize with old friends.

We have not one, but TWO welcome events, with food and beverages. In addition, we have not one but TWO further opportunities to socialize - the traditional ice cream social and the equally traditional evening social following the business meeting.

    See you in Atlanta!

    Sincerely,

PANEL DISCUSSION OF OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS FOR HR AND MANAGEMENT EDUCATION

    Hyatt -

    Hanover B.

    Tuesday August 15
    10:30- 11:50

John Hollenbeck (Michigan State University) will serve as moderator of a discussion featuring three Business School Deans:

    • Terry Blum, Dean of the College of Management, Georgia Tech University
    • Richard Klimoski, Dean of the School of Management, George Mason University
    • Jone Pearce, Professor, The Paul Merage School of Business University of California, Irvine

Is the study of human resources management facing a legitimacy crisis in business school curricula?

MBA students generally rank human resource management courses last in terms of perceptions of importance to the business school curriculum. Yet MBAs who have been out of school five years frequently say they wish they had taken fewer finance courses and more people- oriented courses.

The purpose of this symposium is twofold. First, we expect to generate discussion regarding the relevance and value of managerial education in human resources by engaging business school deans in a panel discussion of the significance of courses in Human Resources Management in business school curriculum at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Second, our panelists of Deans will discuss how human resources management educators might improve student perceptions of the relevance and importance of human resource management in business school curricula.
