Wanted: Your resources, ideas, and
contributions! Post information to the HR Division section of AOM
Connect (http://connect.aomonline.org) and be entered
into a drawing for your choice of an iPad
or $500.00!*
We are in the process of making AOM Connect a useful and interactive
portal and, hopefully, frequent stopping point for you as you utilize
the Web for your professional pursuits. There are many, many
possibilities:
- Need some ideas for
your upcoming HR course? AOM Connect can be a place to submit
and access resources related to teaching and course preparation,
whether it is example syllabi, cases, video clip examples, or
links to other online material.
- Speaking of iPads - there is a discussion thread
currently on AOM Connect regarding use of iPads
in classrooms. Check it out, and use this as an example of how you
might generate a discussion on any topic of your choosing.
- Have you ever wished
there was a better medium than email for people to reach each
other if they are either looking to participate in conference
symposia or are looking for participants in their symposia?
Rather than sending email to the division listserv, why not use
AOM Connect to post your symposia participant requests? A tab
for this very purpose is available on the site.
- Same thing for
requests for working papers for meta-analyses, or requests for
cases or other examples. When the person requesting such
information receives it from others, wouldn't it be nice to have
the cumulative resource list archived in a place like AOM
Connect?
- Want to publicize your in-press papers and get a jump on those
citation counts? Wouldn't it be nice to advertise your newly
accepted work before it comes out in print? Post a citation or
link to your newly accepted manuscript, or otherwise let people
know how to find it (although, for copyright purposes, we ask
that you not actually post a copy of the manuscript directly on
AOM Connect).
Logging onto AOM Connect
to post your own material (and thus enter the drawing!) is as simple
as logging onto the main AOM Web site - just visit http://connect.aomonline.org and use your last
name and AOM member number. From there, click to the HR Division
homepage and you can post and tag information there as you wish.
And, while we encourage you to start benefitting from AOM Connect, we
have several other means of communication available that we want you
to be aware of:
- The Division Web
Site, www.hrdiv.org. Here you can find all kinds
of information about the division, including contact information
for any of the current officers and committee heads.
- The division
sponsored listserv, HR-DIV.NET. This forum is coordinated by
Mark Huselid and is a means of discussion
for HR related topics. To submit to the listserv, you will first
need to join the listserv directly. Instructions for joining can
be found at: www.hrdiv.org/hrdivision/communications/hrdivnet.htm.
- Facebook site, www.facebook.com. First, assuming you have a
personal Facebook account, join the
group "Human Resources Division of the Academy of
Management." Then, any member of the group can post content
that is consistent with the spirit of professionalism in the
Human Resources Division.
Finally, get involved in the Division! If you
would like to volunteer, visit www.hrdiv.org/hrdivision/committees.htm and read
about what our various committees do. Then, either contact the
appropriate committee chair, or the Communications/Member Relations
Committee Chair, Brian Dineen, at brian.dineen@uky.edu.
*Specific rules for the drawing are as follows: you will be
entered into the drawing if you post at least one unique resource to
the AOM Connect HR Division site. For example, a syllabus, case,
video clip, citation for one of your in-press papers, or web link to
course or research material would qualify, whereas a single comment
in reply to someone else's resource or post would not. Although you
may post as many resources as you wish, a maximum of three will be
counted toward entry into the drawing. Also, if you post resources by
the end of this November, each post will be worth three entries. If
you post resources this December, each post will be worth two
entries. January 2011 resource posts will be worth one entry. Thus a
given person could have a maximum of nine entries (i.e., three posts
made in November). Drawing will be held in February and the winner
notified thereafter. Any other questions should be directed to Brian Dineen at brian.dineen@uky.edu.
