Each year the Human Resource Division of the Academy of
Management formally recognizes excellence through the bestowal of awards
for career achievement, early career achievement, scholarly achievement,
international human resource management scholarly achievement, teaching
innovation, best dissertation, best convention paper, best student
convention paper, best convention
We hope you will nominate deserving individuals for all these
HR Division Awards.
The Herbert
Heneman Jr. Award for Career Achievement is given by the Human
Resources Division of the Academy of Management to an individual who
has distinguished himself/herself in the field of human resource
management. The award winner will be announced at the Academy meeting
during the HR Division Awards Ceremony and receive a plaque and a $1000
honorarium.
The Thomas A.
Mahoney Mentoring Award is given annually by the Human Resources
Division of the Academy of Management to an individual who has
distinguished himself/herself in the mentoring of PhD students. This
award is named in memory of Tom Mahoney, who himself provided so much
guidance to developing PhD students over his long career. The award
winner will be announced at the Academy meeting during the HR Division
Awards Ceremony and receive a plaque and a $500 honorarium.
HR Division
Distinguished Human Resource Executive Award
This award is
given to executives who have distinguished themselves throughout their
careers in the field of human resources management. The award is
co-sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management.
This award
recognizes the early career achievement of HR scholars. The Award is
given to an individual who makes distinguished contributions during the
early- to mid-career stage (defined as within 7 years of receiving the
Ph.D.). The award winner will be announced at the Academy meeting
during the HR Division Awards Ceremony and receive a plaque and a $500
honorarium.
The Human
Resources Division's Scholarly Achievement Award will be presented to
the author(s) of the most significant article in human resource
management published in recognized journals and research annuals that
are generally available to Division members. Publications may be
empirically or non-empirically-based. Nominated papers must have a
publication date of 2009. Award recipients need not belong to the
Academy of Management or to the Human Resources Division. The award
winner will be announced at the Academy meeting during the HR Division
Awards Ceremony and receive a plaque and a $500 honorarium.
SHRM
Foundation Dissertation Grants are given to four promising researchers in
the field of human resource management at the dissertation stage of
their doctoral education. This annual competition is funded by the SHRM
Foundation, in partnership with the HR Division of the Academy of
Management and is intended to support the dissertation research of
doctoral candidates. The winners of these dissertation grants each
receive a plaque, $5,000 from the SHRM Foundation, and are honored at
the Academy of Management's annual meeting.
The deadline to nominate doctoral candidates for this award is May 1,
2010.
HR Division
International HRM Scholarly Research Award
Research
excellence in international human resource management (IHRM) is unique
because of its intersection among multiple fields of management, such
as Human Resource Management (HRM) and International Management (IM).
The International HRM Scholarly Research Award will be presented to the
author(s) of the most significant article in international human
resource management. Publications may be empirically- or
non-empirically-based. Nominated papers must have a publication date of
2009. Award recipients need not belong to the Academy of Management or
to the Human Resources Division. The award winner will be announced at
the Academy meeting during the HR Division Awards Ceremony and receive
a plaque and a $500 honorarium.
The HR
Division Innovative Teaching Award recognizes a colleague in the HR Division
who has demonstrated innovation in the classroom or leadership in
disseminating his/her innovations in the teaching of human resource
management. The innovative teaching award is based on the innovative
development and dissemination of new teaching methods and new course
designs. Special attention will be given to methods that are developed
as a result of interactions with the business community and those
methods and designs that are widely disseminated. The award winner will
be announced at the Academy meeting during the HR Division Awards
Ceremony and receive a plaque and a $500 honorarium.
The Ralph
Alexander Dissertation Award is given to the author of the best doctoral
dissertation in the field of human resource management. In order to be
eligible for this award, a dissertation must address a phenomenon that
is of importance to the human resources field and have been completed
no more than 24 months prior to the submission deadline. The award
winner will be announced at the Academy meeting during the HR Division
Awards Ceremony and receive a plaque and a $500 honorarium.
HR Division
Convention Awards: Best Student Convention Paper, Best Convention
Paper, and Best Reviewer Awards
The first two
awards are chosen from those papers selected for the annual Academy
meeting; the third award recipient is chosen from the reviewers for the
HR Division program for the current year. No nominations are solicited
for these three awards, but you are encouraged to self-identify in your
Academy submission if you are eligible for the student award.
