IHRM Scholarly Research Award

Research excellence in international human resource management (IHRM) is unique because of its intersection among multiple fields of management, such as Human Resource Management (HRM) and International Management (IM). Scholars working in IHRM have the ability to make a contribution not only to IHRM, but also to broader areas of management – giving colleagues in traditional human resources a broader contextual understanding of their work.

Click here for a detailed report of the IHRM Scholarly Research Award including a full list of Papers of Excellence and Papers of High Merit.

Eligibility:

  1. Eligible articles should have advanced any area of IHRM in a significant way.
  2. Eligible articles can cover a wide range of topics including (but not limited to) comparative human resources, cross-cultural management, global mobility of human talent, work, or careers, HR’s role in international joint ventures, talent management in global expansion or outsourcing, international HR strategy, HR topics related to emerging markets, HR in developing versus developed nations, convergence versus divergence, HR’s role in global ethical practices, HR use of technology in global management, expatriate management, international and immigrant diversity management practices, global employment and labor legislation, cross-cultural competencies, universal applicability of HR systems or practices, global standardization of HRM, international compensation practices, HR global performance management, etc.
  3. Eligible articles can be theoretical, qualitative, or quantitative.
  4. Eligible articles may come from any scholarly HR, IM, or management outlet in the year prior to the award. If deemed exceptional by the nominator, they also may have been published as chapters in books. Practitioner articles are not eligible.
  5. Eligible articles must have been published in English in 2007.

Nominations and Selection Process:

  1. A committee of HR Division members from multiple regions of the world will oversee the selection process.
  2. Nominated articles can be peer-nominated, self-nominated, or nominated by the Committee provided the nominated article meets the eligibility criteria.
  3. Selection will be based on the extent to which the article has advanced scholarship in IHRM and its implications for domestic HR and IM. At the discretion of the Committee, articles that are explicitly cross-national may be preferred.
  4. Those interested in nominating an article for the award should send their nominations to the Chair of the IHRM Award Committee (see contact info listed below). The nomination should include:
    1. full names of all the authors
    2. title of the article
    3. journal in which the article appeared, including year of publication, volume, issue, and page numbers.
    4. A copy of the full article, including references, tables, and appendices.

Send your nominations no later than February 1, 2008 to

Paul Sparrow (paul.sparrow@lancaster.ac.uk), International Committee Chair
